Burroughs is writing the script for a Showtime series based on the memoir. I can forget your birthday. It takes many real events, and some not so real, and creates a vivid picture we can all see. More transparent than jellyfish sashimi.

Burroughs has a knack for ending up in depraved situations and a brroughs talent for writing about them. About half of Dry is dialogue, and I wondered how Burroughs could recall all those intricate conversations, word for word, especially if he was drinking a liter of scotch every night, as he claims.

But then the story sweeps you along, and the very real sentiments of the book come through, and in the end, like with all good stories, you forget to wonder, and you just read.

Those gay men in a bar seeking for sex that hopefully turn into love are sad people. So, I expect more from his next book in my tbr pile: Living in New York City, Burroughs is busy with an advertising firm, making six-figures, and having little to rein him in.


I would, from a distance, come to view Manhattan as a mall without a roof. For instance, though Pighead only plays a marginal role as far as appearing in the book, he is probably one of the most important characters in that the reader learns most about Augusten, not as a result of his own stint in rehab, but in regards to how he inevitable accepts Pighead into his life.

The woman who stands up in support group and says that even though she found a lump in her breast in the shower one morning and is living on borrowed time, she would “rather have this one day sober than a whole lot of days drunk,” is made up. Burrouhgs he states several times that he has always kept a journal, many of the details either have to be or better be made up.

Burrough’s has become a favorite of mine for his seemingly effortless managment of language. Ddry all 4 comments. Augisten edited it before publication to make it a smoother, more engaging narrative, but it’s still completely true.
